I joined Curves almost a year ago. Overall, I'm glad I signed up - it got me into a routine of exercise that I'd never had before in my life. I even dropped some weight and inches! Of course, I fell off the wagon, post-wedding... but I've started up again. I hope the working-out thing sticks again.
All this aside, I'll be dropping my Curves membership next month, when my contract expires.
Mostly, it's the owner being a major funder of pro-life organizations - I'm very uncomfortable with my money going to him indirectly through the franchise I joined. Also, equally as important is that Jeremy and I can join the neighborhood Y for $84/mo for the two of us (and up to 5 kids. FIVE! Gak!) as opposed to my going to Curves alone for $50/mo. We can join up month-to-month and leave at any time. The Y has more classes and better hours. The Y is open on Sundays.
Ah yes... Sunday hours.
Curves isn't open on Sundays. It's commonly known that, as the owner of the larger Curves company is a pretty fundie guy, none of the franchises are allowed to be open on Sundays. (God's day, you know.)
While working out this evening, I noticed a new sign up on the message board. The headline read "The Real Reason Curves Is Closed On Sundays". The text below it basically stated that the building Curves rented the space from was a residential building. Their lease for the space stipulated that, as it is a residential building, they must be closed Sundays.
BULLSHIT.
I mean, look - NO locations in my neck of the woods have Sunday hours. NONE. If anyone reading this knows of a Curves local to them that's open on Sundays, let me know. I'm dying of curiosity. One location could theoretically be explained away with a "landlord restriction!!!", but how about 7,700+ locations internationally? Come on. I'm not a gullible child.
My Curves contract expires sometime next month.
I'm ready to leave.
